Syphilis and Adult Industry Moratorium

You probably don’t know, but the adult industry is in a moratorium period due to a syphilis outbreak. This happens just when the industry is fighting back on the “obligatory condom usage” law local politicians are trying to impose on the adult industry.

The moratorium includes a complete suspension of activities in the adult industry until each and everyone of the adult performers have tested negative for STDs (especially syphilis), and have received a syphilis shot. Last time I heard this moratorium could last a month, but it could go as far as 90 days without activities, but that’s not yet confirmed.

Everything started when an unknown male performer tested positive for syphilis but altered his test results and continued working until somebody found out he was infected with syphilis. Later we find out, the “unknown male performer” was Mr. Marcus.

Mr. Marcus is a veteran porn performer, and I’m pretty sure a lot of you have heard about him in some sort of way. He’s been in the adult industry for 18 years now, and he’s well known for wearing baseball caps all the time, and performing in interracial scenes. He hasn’t been as active lately as he was while younger, but he’s still active.

Mr. Marcus decided to come forward and reveal that he was infected with syphilis, which in another instance would have been cool if he had done it right from the beginning. The problem is that he knew the entire time he was infected, altered his test results, and still kept working.

Now, I’ve been asked my thoughts on the whole Mr. Marcus syphilis fiasco, and I have to say, it’s a shame this happened. Even though I hate getting involved in any sort of problems, Mr. Marcus really hurt the same industry in which he’s been for almost two decades, that’s the reason I’m writing this article. If you can’t trust a performer who has been in the industry for 18 years, who can you trust?

The other problem is that Mr. Marcus was already in the secondary stage of syphilis. Here’s the definition we found on that from www.emedtv.com:

“Many people with the condition develop symptoms of second-stage syphilis, because it is quite easy to overlook the symptoms of primary syphilis and not seek treatment right away.

In this stage of syphilis, symptoms can begin 2 to 10 weeks after the chancre sore appears. The most common symptom is a rash on the palms of the hands and the bottoms of the feet.”


What this mean is that Mr. Marcus could have been infected up to 10 weeks before he discovered he was infected and altered his tests, which hurts the industry even more. Now, I’m going to try to talk on his favor this time: “Many infected people don’t notice any syphilis symptoms during the first stage of the infection, and he started feeling a rash, by the time he was already in stage 2”.

When people who knows me in my personal life ask my take on the whole syphilis fiasco, I send them to the blog from writer/director Jacky St. James, so they understand all the problem this altered test caused to the adult industry. Here’s a list made from Jacky St. James on all the things that were affected because Mr. Marcus altered his tests.

I know you’re probably aching to know who the beautiful girl in the pictures is. This beautiful blonde is Lylith Lavey, a relatively new porn performer. She admitted she’s the girl in the pictures, and she did film with Mr. Marcus. Fortunately, Lylith tested negative for syphilis, and she received the shot already.

However, everybody needs to get tested before the moratorium in porn is over, and as I said before, that could take from 30 to 90 days. This means that we could end up with a lot of masturbation videos and porn compilations for a while.

Finally, Mr. Marcus is obviously having the worst time of his life. A lot of people in the adult industry have turned their back on him, they have insulted him, and they have told him to retire and never comeback to porn. I think it’s obvious he’s going to have a “forced early retirement”, people in the adult industry is not going to trust him anymore, so he’s not going to find a job easily.

Now, let’s be completely honest here, Mr. Marcus is to blame for altering his test results and endangering the adult industry community, but can you really blame him completely for this mess?

I thought he was completely to blame even if he’s now feeling bad for what he did, but after watching those pictures I posted here from a big porn company I’m not going to reveal, I think it’s pretty obvious something was wrong with this man’s genitals, and still, he was able to work for three different companies according to reports (or at least in three different scenes with the same company).

Now, I still think Mr. Marcus is to blame for the syphilis outbreak in the porn industry, but I don’t think he’s to blame completely. How can you (as a big porn company) let him work when you can clearly notice there’s something wrong with his genitals?? That’s common sense.
